Tutorial 5 of 5
Share, back up and continue a book
Intermediate 6 min
Keep books safe with autosave and files, share a whole book as a link, and move pages between Panelcraft, other apps and AI agents.
Panelcraft never uploads your book on its own. This tutorial shows the ways a book leaves the workspace — and how it comes back.
Autosave and Recent books
Every book edit and every page-editor change is stored in this browser shortly after you make it. Choose Recent books to see the five most recently saved books with the time of their last change. Choose a book's title to reopen it; Remove recent deletes it from this browser only. When you open the workspace again without a link, your most recent book reopens automatically.
Templates are not stored until you change them, so trying all four templates does not push your own books out of the list.
Browser storage can be cleared by the browser or by you. Keep a file as the real backup: Save book (Ctrl+S) downloads a .panelcraft.json file and Open book (Ctrl+O) reads it back. Save as stores a renamed copy as a separate recent book, so you can branch a story without losing the original.
Share a whole book as a link
Choose Export book, then Copy share link. Panelcraft packs the complete book — pages, panels, balloons, tones and imported images — into the address itself. Choose Copy link and send it. Whoever opens it gets their own copy; the book is decoded in their browser and nothing is stored on a server.
Links are limited to about one million characters. A text-only book fits easily; a book with several imported images may not. In that case Panelcraft tells you so, and the downloaded book file is the way to share it.
Save to Google Drive
When you are signed in to usefulweb.site and have connected Google Drive, the top bar shows Save to Drive, Open from Drive and an auto-save switch. Drive receives the same JSON as the downloaded book file. Files that are not Panelcraft books, Comic Desk pages or screentone recipes are rejected and your open book stays unchanged.
Hand work to another app
Export book lists Open in another app actions when another usefulweb app can receive the data:
- Open page image in another app… sends the selected page as a full-size PNG, for example to Lumina for painting.
- Open contact sheet in another app… sends the contact-sheet SVG.
- Open book JSON in another app… sends the editable book as JSON.
The handover stays in your browser. Panelcraft can also receive: an image opens the page editor and becomes the artwork of the selected panel; a book, Comic Desk page or screentone recipe opens a confirmation dialog first, and only Open received comic replaces the current book — which remains in Recent books.
Let an AI agent start a book
The Comic Book & Booklet Planner tool builds an editable book from a title, page count and panel grid. Its result contains the project file and an Open in Panelcraft link that opens the book directly in this workspace. The Posed Figure Reference Maker returns a link that opens Figure Lab with the same pose. Both tools, plus the Comic Page & Lettering Planner and the Screentone Pattern Maker, are listed under Related tools and are available through the JSON API and MCP.
Comfortable working
Dark theme switches the workspace colours; without a choice Panelcraft follows the site theme. Help and shortcuts lists every keyboard shortcut and lets you switch off the single-key ? shortcut.
